"In the summer of 2024 I had been the client of a well-known American insurance company since 1976. The company to which I allude had thus been insuring my home and automobile for upwards of 48 years, during which time I had no traffic accidents and no moving violations on my record. Nor did I have a claim as to my home owner’s insurance until the spring of 2024. Said claim was in connection with a then recent hail storm and was denied. Nevertheless, I saw my premiums rising in cost at a very quick rate, especially over the years between 2016 and 2024. Indeed, I found myself calling my agent every year or two in recent times trying to find ways to lower my premiums. I ended up with no collision and no comprehensive coverage on my car (just medical and liability plus roadside assistance) and the maximum allowed deduction on the home owner’s policy. Still, as of the summer of 2024, auto insurance was costing me about $2400 a year, and home owner’s insurance had risen to about $2800 annually for a 964 square foot ranch-type house with no garage! As a result of conversations with friends about all this, one such recommended I contact her State Farm agent, Ginny Kelly, a mere 3 or 4 miles from my home. Ginny invited me to drop by her office for a consultation, at which time a contract for auto insurance to commence last September 1st was drawn up and agreed to. I now pay only about $1100 annually for auto insurance … only about 46% of the amount my old company was charging for essentially the same coverage. The home owner’s part of my inquiry with Ginny was in part dependent on an underwriter’s determination on the condition of my house, as it was constructed in 1972 and had its one and only roof replacement in 1997. Ginny, though gave me a quote should the house pass inspection, a quote which also was about $1100 annually … about 39% of what I would have to pay my previous insurer. So, naturally I said “yes” to our agreement and waited for the underwriters to do their inspection. Within a few weeks the inspection was carried out. The structure, including the roof, was given a full pass, but there was an issue involving a number of small trees, hedges and bushes growing so close to the house that copious leaves, branches and even stems and trunks of small trees were pressing against two of the exterior walls and in contact with shingles on the roof in places. The result was that I would be insured as is from September 1, 2024 to September 1, 2025 at the agreed-upon rate of $1100 per year but would not be renewed unless the landscaping issues were addressed sometime before the first year’s contract ran out. Well, I felt I couldn’t pass up a 61% savings or thereabouts into the future, so in December I effected a massive trimming project aimed at pleasing on their next visit the underwriters. Soon after my landscaping effort, I contacted Ginny to ask if she could send the underwriters back out sooner rather than later to give me ample time to make further amends. Apparently, the underwriters were on a fixed schedule which wouldn’t send them my way until much closer to September 1, 2025, because she volunteered to come out to my house, take a number of photos, and send them to the underwriters. (Wow! I was amazed by that! It would have been so easy to just say, “Sorry, this stuff works on a professionalized schedule; they’ll be out next July for a final survey.”) At any rate the photos she took worked like a charm, and I’m all set to go for another 60% savings next year. I’m convinced via my experience so far with State Farm that Ginny and those in her office stand with their clients … even go “the extra mile (about 7 miles round trip in my case)”."
